Yomiuri Giants

Pre-spring camp workouts began at Miyazaki on Tuesday.  Tetsuya Utsumi threw thirty-two pitches to a standing catcher.  Tomoyuki Sugano threw thirty-four pitches to a half-bent catcher and Toshiya Sugiuchi twenty-two to a squatting catcher.

Leslie Anderson and Chris Seddon arrived in Japan on Tuesday.  The Giants held a press conference for the two players at the team offices in Otemachi, Tokyo later in the day.

The Giants will play intra-squad games on February 11 and 13.  Both games will take place at Sun Marine Stadium Miyazaki and start at 12:00pm.

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp held a press conference for Zach Phillips at Mazda Stadium on Tuesday.  He has been assigned the number fifty-eight.

Hisashi Takeuchi (26) visited Mazda Stadium on Tuesday and informed reporters that he filed marriage papers with a twenty-four-year-old woman on the 22nd.

As usual, the Carp are having fun with their merchandise.  Among some of the more interesting items: a helmet guitar (late-June, limited to fifty, 68,000 yen), a push cart (February 1, limited to thirty, 23,000 yen), and boxer briefs that were inspired by the pair Kei Tamura (scout) and 1st round draft pick Daichi Osera wore on draft day (February 1, sizes M and L, limited to 100 each, 2,800 yen).
