Bullpen Sessions / Batting Practice

February 1

  • Yusei Kikuchi - seventeen pitches to squatting catcher; including curve
  • Fumiya Nishiguchi - fifty pitches to standing catcher

The first day of Ichi-gun spring camp started at 10:00am on Saturday.  There were no breaks, and practices lasted about four hours.  During opening ceremonies, the team was presented with a number of local food items, including thirty kilograms of ripe kumquats and thirty kilograms of yellowfin tuna.

Players are not scheduled to take batting practice (live, machine) during the first four days of spring camp.  There will be no early morning workouts or lunch workouts.

Ni-gun workouts began at 9:30am.  1st round draft pick Tomoya Mori caught two pitchers in the bullpen.

Haruki Ihara started his morning walk at 5:20am on Saturday.  The players started their walks at 7:00am.

Ihara told reporters he was not sure why so many teams were pushing their players to be at 100 percent for the start of spring camp.  He also told reporters there was nothing his players could do during spring camp to change his mind about their statuses and that the best time for them to prove a point would be when they started playing exhibition games in March.
