Yomiuri Giants

  • Tomoyuki Sugano tossed the second complete game victory of his career on Tuesday against Yokohama.  His first complete game victory came on June 15, 2013 against Softbank.  Sugano set a career high by throwing 142 pitches.  The last Yomiuri pitcher to throw 140 or more pitches in a game was Tetsuya Utsumi with 147 on October 12, 2011 against Hanshin. • Leslie Anderson blasted his first NPB grand slam on Tuesday.  He joined Roy White (April 26, 1980), Shane Mack (April 11, 1995), and Mariano Duncan (April 8, 1998) as the only foreign players in franchise history to hit a grand slam before the end of April during their first year in the NPB.  Teammate Jose Lopez hit a grand slam on March 30.  They are the fourth pair of foreign players in franchise history to hit grand slams in the same season.  The other three: Balvino Galvez and Domingo Martinez in 1999; Alex Ramirez and Edgar Gonzalez in 2010; and John Bowker and Lopez in 2013.  Anderson and Lopez are the first to accomplish the feat before the end of April.
