Hanshin Tigers

  • Ryota Arai recorded the second pinch-hit home run of his career on Wednesday.  His first came on May 19, 2012 against Rakuten.  It was the first pinch-hit home run for the Tigers during the regular season since Tomoaki Kanemoto hit one against Yakult on September 26, 2012.   • Randy Messenger is 5-7 with a 3.20 ERA in fourteen career appearances against Chunichi, including 1-5 with a 4.17 ERA in seven games at Nagoya Dome. Source: Sanspo 4/24/2014
  • Shintaro Fujinami's next start will most likely come on the 29th against Hiroshima at Koshien. Source: Sponichi 4/24/2014 ... Fujinami tosses bullpen sessions on the day before his starts.  Messenger told reporters he thought the youngster might be hitting a wall when he nears 100 pitches during his starts because he is throwing too hard during the sessions. Hiroshima Carp

  • The Carp moved nine games above .500 on Wednesday for the first time since they were 21-12-0 on May 16, 1998.  The last time they were up at least nine games before the end of April was on April 30, 1989 (15-3-0).  They have won seven of the eight series they have played so far, a first since 1989. Chunichi Dragons
