Hanshin Tigers

  • Mauro Gomez extended his streak of reaching base to twenty-six consecutive games from the start of the season on Saturday.  Steve Ontiveros's streak of forty in 1983 is longest in NPB history since the start of the two leagues in 1950.  Tomoaki Kanemoto's thirty-five in 1997 is longest in the Central League since 1950.  The franchise record for reaching base on consecutive games at any point during the season is forty-seven, set by Takashi Toritani in 2012. • Matt Murton drove in his twenty-ninth run of the month on Saturday.  That tied Willie Kirkland (August 1968) and Randy Bass (June 1986) for most RBIs in a month by a foreign player in franchise history.  The overall franchise record of thirty-three was set by Makoto Imaoka in May 2005. • The Tigers have sixteen wins so far in April.  The last time they recorded sixteen wins in one month was in July 2008. Source: Sanspo 4/26/2014
  • Akihito Fujii hurt his right foot while running the bases on Friday.  He was taken off the active roster on Saturday because the injury will take more than two to three days to heal. Source: Sanspo 4/26/2014, Daily Sports 4/26/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • 2nd round draft pick Allen Kuri started Saturday's game against Yomiuri and suffered his first loss by giving up seven runs (six earned) on ten hits over six innings of work.  Pitching coach Yasuyuki Yamauchi told reporters Kuri's next outing will be as a starter, with a little more time in between. • The Carp have recorded fifteen victories in April.  Their franchise high for wins in one month is eighteen, set in August 1994.  There are still three more games left to play this month. Source: Sponichi 4/26/2014
  • Jun Hirose was one of the players that made the salute a popular celebratory pose last season.  He apparently started taking the pose as a sign of respect for firefighters, a profession he was interested in when he was younger. Source: Sanspo 4/26/2014

Chunichi Dragons

  • Yudai Ono will be sent down to Ni-gun after a rough start on Saturday against Yakult.  He gave up five runs (all earned) on three hits and three walks over an inning of work. Source: Nikkan Sports 4/26/2014, Nikkan Sports 4/26/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • The Swallows need pitching.  To that end, they may be looking into some Japanese options overseas like Shunsuke Watanabe and Yoshinori Tateyama. Source: Sports Hochi 4/26/2014
