The NPB switched over to "certified" standard baseballs on Tuesday. NPB staff were dispatched to all six stadiums where they confirmed shipment of the baseballs before the game.
At kobo Stadium, at around 11:00am, Mizuno and NPB staff carried four boxes of baseballs to the umpires room. Each box contained ten boxes of twelve baseballs.
There are some players and coaches that are not sure why the NPB decided to switch the baseballs mid-season. "If all the players know the ball is lively, then we should just go with that," said Yokohama Bay Star Yasutomo Kubo. "If we change the ball, we have to re-adjust all over again. I'm sure the NPB feels it is doing the right thing, but why do the players have to get pushed around like this. They could have addressed this over the course of the year."
Samurai Japan's November schedule is slowly beginning to take shape. The team will likely be called together for about two weeks beginning on November 8. A practice game against a team made up of players from the Softbank Hawks and Nippon Ham Fighters could be played at YafuOku Dome on November 10. The remaining time will be spent playing six games against a team of players from the MLB. The six games will most likely be played at Kyocera Dome (one game), Tokyo Dome (three games), Sapporo Dome (one game), and Okinawa Cellular Naha (one game).
