Yomiuri Giants

  • Tetsuya Utsumi threw about fifty pitches in the bullpen at Giants Stadium on Friday.  He is slated to start Sunday's against Chunichi. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/2/2014
  • The Giants may have been unaware Hayato Sakamoto's consecutive games streak would end with an appearance as a pinch-runner.  It's also possible they knew, but pretended not to because they wanted the streak off the books -- it was starting to become an issue and this was the best way to end it without hurting anyone's pride. Hanshin Tigers

Hiroshima Carp

  • 1st round draft pick Daichi Osera has given up nine runs so far this season.  The breakdown: solo home run (three times), two-run home run with a runner on first (two times), error (one time), infield ground out (one time).  With runners in scoring position, hitters are 0-for-24. • Rainel Rosario has been playing well, but will be taken off the active roster to make room for Kila Ka'aihue. Source: Daily Sports 5/2/2014
  • Singer-songwriter Noriyuki Makihara is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before a game against Chunichi at Mazda Stadium on May 11. Source: Daily Sports 5/2/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • The Bay Stars had a problem with the phone to the bullpen during Thursday's game against Chunichi.  When Shigeru Kaga gave up a three-run home run to Hector Luna in the 5th, Yokohama wanted to make a pitching change, but could not reach the bullpen using the phone in the dugout.  Pitching coach Takeo Kawamura had to run out to the bullpen to bring Masanori Hayashi into the game.
