Yomiuri Giants

  • The Giants are planning to hold a press conference on Saturday to introduce Frederich Cepeda to the media.  People close to the situation told reporters that the organization started finalizing details of his arrival since they now have a better idea of when his work visa will be ready. Hanshin Tigers

  • 4th round draft pick Ryutaro Umeno caught 6th round draft pick Suguru Iwazaki during Wednesday's game against Chunichi.  They are the first Hanshin rookie battery to pitch in a game since Ryo Asai and Yuya Ando in 2002. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/7/2014
  • Shintaro Fujinami made a change to his routine in between starts.  Instead of tossing bullpen sessions one day before his outings, he switched to two days. Source: Daily Sports 5/7/2014
  • Umeno hit a pinch-hit tie-breaking home run in the top of the 12th against Chunichi on Tuesday.  He is the first rookie in franchise history to blast a pinch-hit home run since Hiroshi Yagi on May 13, 1987.  He is the first rookie in franchise history to drill a decisive pinch-hit home run since Koichi Tabuchi on June 29, 1969. Umeno was the last player left on the Tigers' bench on Tuesday (all twenty-five players on the game day roster were used).  If someone had gotten hurt in the bottom of the 12th, they would have had to forfeit the game under rule 4.17. Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Kazuki Mishima will be sent to Ni-gun after another rough outing on Wednesday against Yomiuri.  In one inning of work, he gave up three runs (all earned) on three hits and two walks.  Two of the three hits he allowed were home runs (solo and two-run). Source: Daily Sports 5/7/2014
  • Norihiro Nakamura was taken off the active roster on Wednesday for doing something during Tuesday's game that was not in line with the organization's policies. Source: Sponichi 5/7/2014 ...
