Yomiuri Giants

  • Leslie Anderson is the twenty-sixth player in franchise history to hit two grand slams in one season.  He is also the third foreign player in franchise history to hit two grand slams in their first year in Japan.  The other two: Warren Cromartie in 1984 and Mariano Duncan in 1998. ... 1st round draft pick Seiji Kobayashi became the ninth catcher in franchise history to hit a home run in their rookie season.  The other eight: Masaki Yoshihara in 1938 spring; Toshiaki Takemiya in 1947; Makoto Tsuchida in 1967; Koji Ano in 1970; Yuji Kasama in 1977; Kazuhiro Yamakura in 1978; Kosuke Yoshihara in 1991; and Shinnosuke Abe in 2001. Hiroshima Carp

Chunichi Dragons

  • Tatsuro Hamada is the first Chunichi pitcher to toss a shutout in his first career start since Ken Kadokura on August 2, 1996.  He is the first pitcher in the NPB to toss a shutout in his first career start and strike out ten or more hitters since Yasutomo Kubo on April 24, 2005.  At nineteen years and nine months, he is the first Chunichi pitcher to accomplish the feat before turning twenty since Shinichi Kondo at eighteen years and eleven months on August 9, 1987.   • Norihiro Nakamura posted another message on his Facebook account, this time apologizing to the organization and fans for causing a distraction with his previous update. To provide a little more behind what happened: Nakamura sat down with a coach (or coaches) to discuss strategy with runners on base and suggested that it might help him concentrate if the green light to steal was removed when the team was tied or ahead.  He later found out through a phone call that he was being taken off the active roster.
