Yomiuri Giants

  • The Giants had problems with their phone connection to the bullpen during the 7th inning of Friday's game against the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien.  Batting coach Hideki Hashigami had to run out to the bullpen to let people know Yuya Kubo was needed. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/10/2014

  • Kan Otake won his start on Friday and became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to win five or more games in their first season with the team after signing through free agency.  The other four: Hirofumi Kono (six wins in 1996), Kimiyasu Kudo (twelve wins in 2000), Shugo Fujii (seven wins in 2010), and Toshiya Sugiuchi (twelve wins in 2012). Hanshin Tigers

  • The Arai brothers (Takahiro and Ryota) made appearances as pinch-hitters in Friday's game against the Yomiuri Giants.  It was just the fourth time the brothers appeared in the same game as pinch-hitters.  It was the first time the two collected hits (T. Arai recorded a single to center in the 7th and R. Arai a single to left in the 9th). Source: Nikkan Sports 5/10/2014
  • The Tigers and the Tigers Old Timers Association will be collecting donations before a number of Saturday home games throughout the course of the season.  Money raised will be used to purchase baseball equipment for children living in Natori, Miyagi. Hiroshima Carp

  • The Carp created a special ticket package for Saturday's game designed for female fans living in the Kanto region.  They received 2,305 applications for the 148 available spots in March.  Each ticket cost 6,500 yen and included a free round trip Shinkansen ticket.  Source: Nikkan Sports 5/10/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • The Bay Stars became the thirty-fifth team in NPB history (sixteenth in the Central League) to record a one-hit win on Saturday.  It was the fifteenth time (seventh in the Central League) the one hit happened to be a home run.  The last one-hit, home run, win in the NPB: Lotte's Toshiaki Imae in 2009.  The last one-hit, home run win in the Central League: Yokohama's Hitoshi Nakane in 2001.   • Kiyoshi Nakahata indicated on Friday that there was no timetable on Norihiro Nakamura's return to the active roster. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/10/2014 ... Nakahata, General Manager Shigeru Takada, Team President Jun Ikeda met at Yokohama Stadium on Friday to discuss Nakamura.  Takada also briefed the other two on his meeting with the veteran on Thursday evening.
