Yomiuri Giants

  • Hayato Sakamoto reached the 1,000-hit milestone on Tuesday with a single in the 1st off Seibu's Kazuhisa Makita.  At twenty-five years and five months, he became the third youngest player to reach the milestone in NPB history. The top two players: Kihachi Enomoto at twenty-four years and nine months; and Masahiro Doi at twenty-five years and four months.  Yasumitsu Toyoda, Ichiro Suzuki, and Sakamoto are tied at twenty-five years and five months.  Twenty-five years and five months set a new franchise record.  The previous record of twenty-six years and one month was set by Hideki Matsui. Hanshin Tigers

  • Takahiro Arai is the lead candidate for the designated hitter position during Inter-league home games.  The Tigers have other options, but will probably give the veteran a chance to win the job.   • Koshien Stadium signed a green sponsorship agreement with Teijin.  The two sides have been working together since 2012.  The new agreement will further enhance their partnership. Source: official announcement

Hiroshima Carp

  • The Carp could go with Rainel Rosario over Zach Phillips when Inter-league play shifts to Mazda Stadium for four games, beginning on the 25th.  A lot will likely depend on how well Phillips performs until then and whether the coaching staff feels they need the pitching. Yakult Swallows
