Yomiuri Giants

  • Tetsuya Utsumi is 0-5 in nine starts this season.  He became the first Yomiuri pitcher to start a season without any victories through nine or more starts since Masumi Kuwata in 2005 (twelve starts, 0-7); and the eighth pitcher in franchise history to start a season with a losing streak of five or more since Kuwata in 2005. Hanshin Tigers

  • Mauro Gomez blasted a home run in his first trip to the plate in the 1st inning of Friday's game against Softbank.  Prior to the game, he was 1-for-22 in the 1st inning and 7-for-42 in his first trips to the plate. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/24/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Guillermo Moscoso could be sent to Ni-gun if he has another bad start.  He gave up five runs (all earned) on six hits and a walk over three innings of work against the Nippon Ham Fighters on Saturday. Source: Daily Sports 5/24/2014
  • The media learned on Friday that Yulieski Gourriel could end up making his debut with the Ichi-gun team as early as the June 6 against Nippon Ham at Yokohama.  That could also give him time to play in a couple of Ni-gun tune-up games (vs Seibu, June 3-5).  The final schedule could change based on visa issues. • Shoichi Ino became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to toss a shutout victory during Inter-league play, first since Daisuke Miura on June 12, 2013.  He is the first to do it while recording ten or more strikeouts.  He also became the tenth pitcher in franchise history to win seven games before the end of the May, first since Kazuhiro Sasaki in 1992 (all in relief) and Tsugio Kanazawa (all as a starter) in 1984.
