[6/1/2014] Yomiuri Giants, Hanshin Tigers, Yokohama Bay Stars, Yakult Swallows

Yomiuri Giants

  • Daisuke Fujimura and Fuminori Yokogawa had a busy day on the 31st.  They played in a Ni-gun game against Hanshin at Koshien (Fujimura started in center, batted lead-off, and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout; Yokogawa got the start in right, batted third, and went 1-for-3 with a strikeout) before an Ichi-gun game against Orix at Kyocera Dome.  They started the Ichi-gun game on the bench.  Yokogawa made it into the game as a pinch-hitter in the top of the 8th and walked. Hanshin Tigers

  • Daiki Enokida started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Sunday. He gave up a run on three hits over five innings of work. He threw sixty-seven pitches and topped out at 142km/h. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/1/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Yulieski Gourriel worked out at Bay Stars Stadium on Sunday. He took grounders at third, second, and short. During batting practice, he hit seven over the fence on fifty-three swings. Source: Sports Hochi 6/1/2014 ... Gourriel also worked out at Yokohama Stadium on Saturday for about an hour. The Bay Stars will hold a press conference for him on Monday.   • Tomo Otosaka became the fifty-seventh player in the NPB (twenty-ninth in the Central League; third in franchise history behind Dick Stuart in 1967 and Stephen Randolph in 2009) to hit a home run in his first career plate appearance on Saturday.  He also became the fourteenth in NPB history to achieve the feat as a pinch-hitter. Yakult Swallows

  • Wladimir Balentien hit two home runs on Saturday.  He used a Marucci bat for the first blast (new bat) and an Old Hickory for the second (his regular bat).
