Yomiuri Giants

  • The Giants allowed thirteen runs to score in a game against Softbank on Wednesday.  It was the first time they gave up thirteen runs in one game since July 15, 2009. Source: Daily Sports 6/5/2014
  • The offense set a new franchise high with its seventeenth consecutive single-digit hit game on Wednesday.  The previous high of sixteen was set in 1961 (June 21 - July 23) and 1971 (June 16 - July 3). Source: Sanspo 6/5/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • 3rd round draft pick Suguru Iwazaki started a Ni-gun game against Hiroshima on Thursday.  He pitched five shutout innings, walked two, and struck out seven. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/5/2014
  • Takahiro Arai got the start at third base on Wednesday for the first time since July 8, 2012.  He will most likely go back to designated hitter or first base when the team returns to Koshien for a four-game homestand that begins on the 6th. Hiroshima Carp

  • Katsuhiro Nagakawa was taken off the active roster on Thursday because he has been ineffective during Inter-league play: 5 G, 0-3, 4.0 IP, 9 H, 4 HR, 3 SO, 3 BB, 9 R, 9 ER. Jumpei Shinoda and Keita Nishihara were also taken off the active roster.  Takeru Imamura, Shota Nakazaki, and Yusuke Nomura will likely be called up on Friday. Source: Sports Hochi 6/5/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • The Bay Stars will be selling a ticket package that includes a mock tryout.  The tickets will be for games against Hanshin on July 5 and 6.  The tryouts will take place at Yokohama Stadium after the games. Source: official announcement
  • Yulieski Gourriel ran into some problems with communication during Wednesday's Ni-gun game against Seibu.  With runners on first and second and no out in the 5th, a ball was hit out to right-center that involved the cut-off man.  The catcher wanted the ball to go home, but Gourriel could not understand what was being said and threw the ball to second.
