  • Wladimir Balentien told Junji Ogawa after Wednesday's game that he could not hit as a designated hitter and that he wanted to play defense during night games (not during day games).  Keeping in mind that Balentien is nursing a bad left Achilles tendon, Ogawa told reporters it was possible he could play defense during night games, depending on how things worked out.  In twelve starts as a designated hitter, Balentien is 4-for-38 with no home runs and one RBI. Source: Sanspo 6/6/2014 ... On Friday, Ogawa seemed to back away from what he said earlier.  When asked if the slugger would play the outfield during night games, he replied, "[Balentien] will DH.  He may not be doing well as a DH this year, but it isn't like he'll suddenly be able to hit just because he's playing defense."
