Yomiuri Giants

  • Shinnosuke Abe recorded his 1,000th RBI with his 333rd career home run on Saturday.  Abe became the forty-second player, fifth catcher, in NPB history to reach the 1,000 RBI milestone, and he moved into sole possession of fourth on the franchise's all-time list with his 333rd career home run.  Only Tatsunori Hara (382), Shigeo Nagashima (444) and Sadaharu Oh (868) have more home runs.  He moved out of a fourth place tie with Hideki Matsui (332).   • Hayato Sakamoto joined Takenori Yamakawa (1946) and Sadaharu Oh (1971, 1973, 1974) as the only players in franchise history to walk five times in five consecutive trips to the plate in a nine-inning game.  The NPB record of six was set by Hiromitsu Ochiai on October 13, 1991. Hanshin Tigers

  • Takashi Toritani hit home runs in consecutive games on Thursday and Friday for the fourteenth time in his career, first since 2010 (August 24, 25).  He once hit home runs in three consecutive games in 2009 (August 30 - September 2). Source: Nikkan Sports 6/7/2014
  • Atsushi Nomi is the first pitcher over thirty to strike out ten or more hitters in four consecutive games.  Before Nomi, the oldest pitcher to strike out ten or more hitters in four consecutive games was Terry Bross at twenty-nine years and five months. Source: Nikkan SPorts 6/7/2014
