Ryuhei Matsuyama hurt his left knee when crashed into a wall while attempting to catch a ball during a game against Seibu at Seibu Dome on the 13th. Preliminary tests at a hospital in Tokyo revealed a possible injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. He was re-examined at a hospital in Hiroshima on Monday. The Hiroshima Carp announced today that the injury was to the medial collateral ligament.
There is no need for surgery, but the knee will have to be immobilized for three to four weeks. While a set timetable has not been released by the Carp, Kenjiro Nomura did tell reporters it could be a while before Matsuyama is able to play again.
