Yomiuri Giants

  • The Giants are using alternate white caps during outdoor day practices as a way to keep their heads cool during the hotter summer months. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/28/2014
  • All-Star Game: Fans voted for just one Giant for sixth time in franchise history, first since 2006.  Fans did not select any Yomiuri players in 1995 and 2003. Source: Sanspo 6/28/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Yoshinori Tateyama threw sixty-five pitches in the bullpen on Friday, twelve to a standing catcher, forty-four to a squatting catcher, and nine more to a standing catcher.  Takeshi Hidaka caught the session. Source: Sponichi 6/28/2014
  • Randy Messenger threw 145 pitches during his start against Chunichi on Friday.  His personal NPB high of 150 was set on September 17, 2013 against Hiroshima.  He also threw 146 pitches twice in the past, once on May 23, 2013 against Lotte and again on July 30, 2013 against Chunichi. Hiroshima Carp

  • All-Star Game: Fans selected a franchise high eight Carp to the All-Star roster.  The previous high of five was set in 2009.  Hanshin holds the record with nine in 2003. ... Ryuji Ichioka became the first player to win enough fan votes to make the All-Star roster in his first year after joining a team as free agency compensation. ... This was the first time three foreign players from the same team made the All-Star roster with fan votes.  Source: Daily Sports 6/28/2014 ... Eight or more players from one team were voted to the All-Star roster by fans five other times in the past: eight from Yomiuri in 1973, eight from Nippon Ham in 1978, nine from Hanshin in 2003, eight from Rakuten in 2007, eight from Nippon Ham in 2012.  Sanspo 6/28/2014 ... Chunichi Dragons

Yokohama Bay Stars
