Rakuten's Senichi Hoshino has formally withdrawn as manager for the Pacific League team during the upcoming All-Star series. Rakuten Interim manager Yoshinori Sato will step in for Hoshino. Sato and Hoshino will work together on Manager Selections.
Hoshino is currently recovering from surgery to treat the ossification of thoracic yellow ligament and a herniated lumbar disc. The procedures were conducted earlier this month after he announced a leave of absence on May 26. Hoshino joins Toshiharu Ueda (Hankyu, 1978) as the only managers in NPB history to withdraw from the All-Star series.
