Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani turned twenty on Saturday.  Hideki Kuriyama told reporters he plans to keep Otani on a short leash when it comes to going out -- he will still have to contact team officials for approval and permission.  Now that he is no longer a minor, Otani would like to try some alcohol, but has no interest in cigarettes. Source: Sponichi 7/5/2014, Nikkan Sports 7/5/2014, Daily Sports 7/5/2014 ... • All-Star Series: Otani joined Junzo Sekine as the only players in NPB history to make the All-Star team as both a pitcher and fielder.  Sekine made the team as a pitcher in 1951 and 1953, and as a fielder in 1959, 1960, 1962, and 1963.  Otani made the team as a fielder last year and a pitcher this year.
