Rakuten Eagles

  • Kazuo Matsui picked up the 166th modasho of his career during Tuesday's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.  That put him in a 9th place tie on the all-time list with Tomoaki Kanemoto and Michihiro Ogasawara. Source: Sanspo 7/9/2014

Seibu Lions

  • Ken Togame was taken off the active roster on Wednesday to give him a little rest.  Atsushi Okamoto was called up to take his place.  Yusei Kikuchi will most likely get a start during the Orix series that begins on the 11th at Seibu Dome. Source: Sanspo 7/9/2014

Orix Buffaloes

  • Team officials Ryuzo Setoyama and Yasuyuki Kato will visit Cuba between the 13th and 18th.  They will meet the head of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Higinio Velez.  They will not be checking on talent during their visit -- they do not expect to acquire anyone for the current season.  They will most likely send someone to check on players when league play begins in November. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani struck out a career high sixteen hitters during his start against the Rakuten Eagles on Wednesday.  The sixteen strikeouts also tied the franchise record for most strikeouts in a game, set by Masayuki Dobashi in 1958 and Isamu Kida in 1980. Source: Sponichi 7/9/2014
