Yomiuri Giants

  • Possible starters for the Hanshin series that begins on the 11th at Tokyo Dome: Kan Otake, Toshiya Sugiuchi, Hirokazu Sawamura.  Tetsuya Utsumi will most likely get a start during the Yakult series that begins on the 14th. Source: Daily Sports 7/9/2014

  • Takashi Toritani recorded the 107th modasho of his career during Tuesday's game against the Hiroshima Carp and moved into sole possession of 6th on the franchise's all-time list.  Makoto Imaoka is in 5th with 111.  Taira Fujita holds the franchise record with 150. Source: Sanspo 7/9/2014
  • 4th round draft pick Ryutaro Umeno notched his first Koshien home run on Tuesday and became the first Hanshin rookie to hit a home run at Koshien in his first year as pro since Takashi Toritani on May 27, 2004; and the first Hanshin rookie catcher since Koichi Tabuchi on April 13, 1969.   • The Tigers have recorded at least one hit in each of their last twenty innings.  The NPB record of hits in twenty-three consecutive innings was set by Yakult between August 5 and 7 in 2005. Yakult Swallows

  • Tetsuto Yamada recorded his fourth lead-off home run of the season during Tuesday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He became the first player to hit four lead-off home runs in a season since Hayato Sakamoto in 2011 and the first Yakult player since Sam Perlozzo in 1980.  The franchise high eight lead-off home runs in a season was set by Dave Hilton in 1978.  Yoshinobu Takahashi holds the NPB record with nine, set in 2007.
