Yomiuri Giants

  • Possible starters for the Hanshin series that begins on Friday (July 11): Kan Otake, Toshiya Sugiuchi, and Hirokazu Sawamura.  Sugiuchi is sitting on 1,997 strikeouts in 1,924.2 innings pitched.  Kazuhisa Ishii set the NPB record by striking out 2,000 in 1,967.2 innings.  Sugiuchi has more than a good chance at breaking Ishii's record.   • Possible starters for the Yomiuri series that begins on Friday (July 11): Randy Messenger, Atsushi Nomi, and Minoru Iwata.  Kosuke Kato, Daiki Enokida, and 6th round draft pick Suguru Iwazaki will be in the bullpen as left-handed relievers.   • 1st round draft pick Yuta Iwasada (left shoulder) is a candidate for an Ichi-gun start against Yokohama at Koshien on August 3.  The Tigers have five starters (Messenger, Nomi, Shintaro Fujinami, Iwata, and Iwazaki) but need a sixth.   • Yoshinori Tateyama participated in Ni-gun practices at Koshien on Thursday.  He threw forty-three pitches in the bullpen.  He was set to pitch in a Ni-gun game against Hiroshima on Thursday, but the game was rained out.  He will not be traveling with the team for a three-game series against Ni-gun Chunichi at Nagoya.  He might pitch during the Softbank series that begins on the 14th at Naruohama.  He could pitch in a batting practice scrimmage at Naruohama over the weekend.  There is also word that he may have hurt his hamstring.   • The Tigers are planning to invite old timers Yutaka Enatsu and Koichi Tabuchi to Koshien Stadium on the 21st to participate in the first-pitch ceremony: Enatsu will take the mound and Tabuchi will get behind the plate.  It will be their first appearance as batterymates during a first-pitch ceremony since September 13, 2000. Hiroshima Carp

  • Kenta Maeda's start against Hanshin at Koshien on Thursday was rained out.  He is now scheduled to start Saturday's game against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome.  It will be his last start before the All-Star break. Source: Daily Sports 7/11/2014

Chunichi Dragons

  • The Ni-gun Dragons are scheduled to play two games against Industrial League teams: July 14 vs Mitsubishi Motors Okazaki and July 15 vs Yamaha.  Both games will start at 12:30pm at Nagoya Stadium.  Admission will be free. Source: official announcement

  • Daisuke Miura could get a start on the 13th against the Yakult Swallows at Jingu Stadium.  Kuan-Yu Chen will be added to the seventy-man roster and could pitch during the Hiroshima series that begins on the 14th at Mazda Stadium.
