Yomiuri Giants

  • Shinnosuke Abe was ejected for coming into contact with an umpire during Friday's game against the Hanshin Tigers.  Abe was called out at first in the 8th inning on a close play.  He turned to argue with the first base umpire and was immediately ejected when he shoved him.  The commissioner's office issued Abe a stern warning and a 150,000 yen fine on Saturday. Hanshin Tigers

  • Yoshinori Tateyama threw twenty-one pitches (fastballs and curves) in the bullpen on Friday.  He is slated to pitch in a Ni-gun series against Softbank that begins on the 14th. Source: Sanpso 7/12/2014

  • Randy Messenger picked up his third victory of the year against the Yomiuri Giants on Friday and became the first foreign pitcher in franchise history to win three games in one season against the Giants since Buddy Carlyle in 2001.  He also joined Gene Bacque (1964, 1967) and Matt Keough (1988, 1990) as the only foreign pitchers in franchise history to win three in a row against the Giants in one season. Chunichi Dragons

  • Michihiro Ogasawara collected another pinch-hit hit on Saturday and tied a franchise record by going six for his last six as a pinch-hitter.  The hit also moved him into sole possession of twenty-eighth on the all-time list with 2,098. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/12/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • Tetsuto Yamada was left out of the starting line-up on Saturday against Yokohama because over a fever.  Yamada started feeling sick after Friday's game.  He was taken to a hospital in Toda, Saitama on Saturday morning for treatment.  He did participate in practices later in the day, but his day was cut short when he started feeling sick again.
