[7/21/2014] Chunichi Dragons, Yokohama Bay Stars, Yakult Swallows

Chunichi Dragons

  • Kazuhiro Wada was hit on the left side of the head with a pitch during his at bat in the 1st inning of Monday's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.  Wada was taken to a hospital in Yokohama for tests.  No abnormalities were found. Source: Sponichi 7/21/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Noriharu Yamazaki recorded four sac hits during Monday's game against the Chunichi Dragons and became the ninth player in NPB history to accomplish the feat. Source: Daily Sports 7/21/2014
  • Shugo Fujii talked to general manager Shigeru Takada about the organization's plans for him.  He will most likely be used in relief. Source: Sponichi 7/21/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • Toshihiro Sugiura (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against the Futures on Monday.  He tossed two shutout innings and gave up two hits.  He struck out three and threw thirty-two pitches.  It was his first outing since he pitched in a practice game against Chunichi during spring camp on February 19.   • Nagisa Arakaki and Hirofumi Yamanaka are scheduled to join the team on the 23rd.  The Swallows will most likely go with a five-man rotation over the first six games of the second-half.  They plan to add a sixth man to the rotation on the 29th.  Arakaki could end up getting a start on the 31st against Hanshin at Koshien. The Swallows will hold a press conference for Arakaki and Yamanaka on the 22nd.  The Ichi-gun coaches will check on the two players over a two day period beginning on the 23rd.  Their assignments will be decided after the two-day "tryout" period.
