Yomiuri Giants

Hanshin Tigers

  • Takahiro Arai played in fifty-three games during the first-half.  In nineteen games in the starting line-up, he went 22-for-71 (.310) with no home runs and ten RBI.  In thirty-three games as a pinch-hitter, he went 7-for-27 (.259 with one home run and nine RBI. The Tigers could make Arai their everyday third baseman during the second-half.  Kentaro Sekimoto and Ryota Arai will most likely be used as right-handed pinch-hitters.  Tsuyoshi Nishioka could become a left-handed bat off the bench.   • Yuta Iwasada Pitched in a Ni-gun intra-squad game on the 22nd.  He threw about sixty pitches in the bullpen at Naruohama on Sunday in preparation for his next Ni-gun start on the 26th against Chunichi. Source: Sanspo 7/21/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Brad Eldred launched his thirtieth home run of the season on Monday and became the fourth player in franchise history to reach thirty home runs before any one else in either league.  The other three Carp: Adrian Garrett in 1978, Koji Yamamoto in 1979 and 1981, and Akira Eto in 1995.   • Kenta Maeda might get Friday starts on six days of rest over the next five or so weeks.  That could means starts against Hanshin at Mazda on July 25, Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome on the August 1, Hanshin at Kyocera Dome on August 8, Yomiuri at Mazda on August 15, and Hanshin at Mazda on August 22.
