Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles are not sure where to place interim manager Hiromoto Okubo when Senichi Hoshino returns.  He could go back to managing at Ni-gun, or remain at Ichi-gun as a head coach. Okubo will most likely return to managing the Ni-gun team.  Ni-gun Ikusei coach Osamu Yonemura will most likely go back to Ichi-gun as outfield/base-running coach with Ichi-gun outfield/base-running coach Koichi Isobe going back to Ni-gun as an Ikusei coach.   • Takashi Saito recorded his first victory of the year on Monday at the age of forty-four years and five months.  He joined Shinji Hamazaki, Kimiyasu Kudo, and Masahiro Yamamoto as the only pitchers in NPB history to win one or more games after turning forty-four.  He also became the first pitcher in NPB history to record a win, save, and hold after turning forty-four. Seibu Lions

  • The Lions held a press conference for Hiroyuki Kobayashi on Tuesday.  He was assigned the number fifty-two.  He agreed to a one-year deal worth an estimated six million yen.  He is scheduled to pitch in a Ni-gun game against Lotte on the 23rd. Source: Sponichi 7/22/2014
