Yomiuri Giants

  • Yoshinobu Takahashi hit a game-tying pinch-hit solo home run in the bottom of the 9th with two out against Hanshin on Tuesday.  He became the first Giant to tie a game in the bottom of the 9th with a pinch-hit, two-out home run since Koji Goto hit a three-run blast against Hanshin on April 11, 2003. Hanshin Tigers

  • Yuta Iwasada started a Ni-gun intra-squad game on Tuesday.  He pitched three innings and gave up two runs on three hits.  He also walked three, allowed two stolen bases, and threw one wild pitch.  He is scheduled to start a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on the 26th. Source: Sanspo 7/23/2014
  • Kazuyuki Kaneda picked up his first career victory with just one pitch on Tuesday.  He became the thirty-sixth pitcher in the NPB, nineteenth in the Central League, to record a win with one pitch, first since Yomiuri's Mizuki Tsuchida on June 15, 2014.  He joined Tatsuhiro Yuminaga (October 21, 1993) and Minoru Kasai (August 3, 2000) as the only pitchers in franchise history to win a game with one pitch.   • Kosuke Fukudome recorded his third career walk-off home run during Tuesday's game against the Yomiuri Giants -- April 2, 2003 against Yakult; April 19, 2013 vs Yakult; July 22, 2014 vs Yomiuri.  He became the first player in franchise history to hit a walk-off home run against Yomiuri in the 12th inning or later. The Tigers have hit thirteen walk-off home runs against the Giants.  Fukudome joined Fumio Fujimura (1951, 10th inning) and Yasushi Tao (1988, 10th inning) as the only players in franchise history to hit a walk-off home run against the Giants.   • On Tuesday, Motonobu Tanishige became the first player/manager to hit a home run since Katsuya Nomura in 1977; and the first player/manager in the Central League since Fumio Fujimura since 1956. At forty-three-years and seven months, Tanishige joined Tomoaki Kanemoto (forty-four years and five months) and Takeshi Yamasaki (forty-three years and eight months) as the only as the only players in Central League history to hit a home run at forty-three years and seven months or older. Yakult Swallows
