Yomiuri Giants

  • Shuichi Murata's consecutive games streak ended at 676 games.  The streak started on September 21, 2009. Source: Sanspo 7/28/2014 ... Sunday marked the first time Murata and Shinnosuke Abe did not make the starting line-up in the same game.  It was just the sixth time two or more of  Hayato Sakamoto, Hisayoshi Chono, Abe, and Murata failed to make the starting line-up in the same game since 2012.  Sunday's game was the first time two or more of the four failed to make the starting line-up in a game before the team managed to clinch first place. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/28/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Yoshinori Tateyama joined Ichi-gun practices at Koshien on Monday.  He will most likely be added to the active roster on Tuesday. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/28/2014
  • Yuta Iwasada is scheduled to make his Ichi-gun debut against Yokohama at Koshien on August 3.  Iwasada tossed six shutout innings against Ni-gun Chunichi on Saturday (July 26).  He allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out seven. Source: Daily Sports 7/28/2014
  • Possible starters for the Yakult series at Koshien that begins on the 29th: Minoru Iwata, Kazuhito Futagami, Atsushi Nomi.  Possible starters for the Yokohama series at Koshien that begins on August 1: Shintaro Fujinami, Randy Messenger, and Iwasada. Source: Sponichi 7/28/2014

  • Kazuyuki Kaneda suffered a cut on his right middle finger during a game against Hiroshima at Mazda Stadium on the 26th.  He was taken off the active roster on Sunday. Source: Sanspo 7/28/2014

Chunichi Dragons

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Daisuke Miura threw 148 pitches during his start against the Yakult Swallows on Sunday.  It was the eighth time he threw 148 or more pitches in a game over his career.  His career high of 158 was set on April 25, 1996.  His thirty-one career victories against the Swallows is good for sole possession of  fourth on the franchise's all-time list, behind Noboru Akiyama's forty-five, Masaji Hiramatsu's thirty-eight, and Kazuhiko Endo's thirty-seven.   • The Bay Stars have won their last nine games against the Yakult Swallows.  The last time they carried a nine-game winning streak against one team during a season was in 1997 against Chunichi (eleven games between July 1 and August 28).  The last time they carried a nine-game winning streak against Yakult was in 1970 (ten games between May 9 and August 23).
