Seibu Lions

  • Tomoya Mori recorded a hit in his first career plate appearance on Wednesday.  The last player out of high school to record a hit in his first career plate appearance in his first year was Masayuki Kuwahara on October 1, 2012.  Hideki Saeki was the last Seibu player to accomplish the feat on September 24, 1990. Chiba Lotte Marines

  • Yoshifumi Okada set a new NPB record for consecutive plate appearances without a home run from the start of a career during Thursday's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.  Shichiro Yokozawa held the previous record of 1,770 plate appearances without a home run (1936-1947).  Okada started Thursday at 1,769.  He tied the record with a single to center in his first at bat during the 1st inning.  He broke the record when he got hit by a pitch in his second at bat in the 2nd inning.  He finished the night 1-for-3 with an HBP and the new record standing at 1,773.   • Alfredo Despaigne hit a ball past the Lotte sign that hit the wall in left during pre-game batting practice on Wednesday.  It was estimated at about 140-meters. Source: Sponichi 7/30/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • On Wednesday, Yuya Iida became the eleventh pitcher selected during an Ikusei draft to record a victory in an Ichi-gun game, first since Kohei Mantani on June 22, 2014.  Two other Softbank pitchers selected during an Ikusei draft have also recorded Ichi-gun victories: Kodai Senga on May 12, 2013 and Hiroki Yamada on June 24, 2010.  Senga recorded his win in relief.
