Yuichi Honda suffered a finger fracture when he was hit by a pitch during today's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters. He came up to bat in the 8th inning with runners on first and second and no out. Naoki Miyanishi was on the mound for the Fighters. On the first pitch of the at bat, Miyanishi hit Honda on the left hand with a 137km/h fastball.
Honda was removed from the game and taken to a hospital in Sapporo for tests. He was diagnosed with a fissure fracture in the proximal phalanx in his left ring finger. He will require about six months for a full recovery.
