Yomiuri Giants

  • The three, four, five hitters went yard on Friday in the same game for the third time this year (April 2 vs Yokohama, April 9 vs Hiroshima, August 15 vs Hiroshima).  Shinnosuke Abe (batted fourth on Friday) and Yoshinobu Takahashi (batted fifth on Friday) homered in the same game for the thirty-eighth time (all-time).  Abe, Takahashi, and Hayato Sakamoto (batted third on Friday) homered in the same game for the fifth time (all-time), first since July 24, 2013.  Friday was the first time the trio hit home runs in the same game batting out of the three, four, and five spots.  The Giants faced Kenta Maeda as a starter on Friday for the twenty-seventh time in franchise history and scored six runs off of him.  They have managed to score six or more runs off Maeda on only one other occasion: eight runs on July 30, 2010.  Friday was the first time he failed to pitch at least five innings against the Giants. Hanshin Tigers

  • Yoshinori Tateyama was taken off the active roster on Saturday because the Tigers wanted another lefty in the bullpen. Source: Sponichi 8/16/2014
  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka's Hometown Honor Award was recently found listed at an online auction.  He received the distinction from Chiba for his part in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.  Nishioka confirmed that the award was not in his possession, but could not recall losing it. Hiroshima Carp

  • Kenta Maeda recorded the 1,000th strikeout of his career during Friday's game against the Yomiuri Giants and became the 139th pitcher in NPB history to reach the milestone.  The strikeout came in the 2nd inning against Seiji Kobayashi. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/16/2014

Chunichi Dragons

Yakult Swallows
