Yomiuri Giants

  • Hector Mendoza tossed his first batting practice at Giants Stadium on the 17th.  He faced Ikusei players Chikara Yoshikawa and Ryusei Kitanosono, threw forty pitches, and allowed six could-be hits.  He topped out at 143km/h. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/17/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Hiroki Uemoto hit a home run off the first pitch he saw in the top of the 1st inning of Sunday's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.  It was the second lead-off home run of his career, and the first that came on the first pitch.  The last Hanshin player to hit a lead-off home run on a first pitch was Takashi Toritani against Yokohama at Yokohama on June 20, 2010. Yakult Swallows

  • Yasuhiro Ogawa feels he did not spend enough time resting his shoulder and elbow during the off-season.  It may have also resulted in problems with his mechanics that began at start of the season: he thinks he is not getting enough power behind his pitches this year because he is opening up too quickly and falling off the mound toward first too much. • Nagisa Arakaki has thrown four or more wild pitches in one game three times during his career: four wild pitches against Rakuten on April 17, 2007 with Softbank; set the NPB record with five wild pitches against Seibu on August 20, 2008 with Softbank; tied the Central League record with four wild pitches against Chunichi on August 16, 2014 with Yakult.  Arakaki joined Yuhei Takai (2004, 2006) and Orlando Roman (2012) as the only pitchers in the Central League to throw four wild pitches in one game.  He also became the first pitcher to throw four or more wild pitches in one game in both leagues.
