[8/18/2014] Injury Report: Tetsuya Matsumoto (Yomiuri), Yuji Kaneko (Seibu)

Yomiuri Giants

  • Tetsuya Matsumoto felt pain in his right hand after he fouled off a pitch during his at bat in the 7th inning of Friday's game against Hiroshima.  He was examined at a hospital in Tokyo on Monday and diagnosed with a hamate hook fracture.  He is scheduled to undergo surgery to treat the injury on the 20th.  There is no timetable on his return.   • Tomoyuki Sugano (right middle finger) did some long distance throwing at Giants Stadium for the first time since he got hurt.  He slowly expanded the gap out until it reached about ninety-five meters.  Assuming no setbacks, he could toss a bullpen session on the 20th.  He could then move on to batting practice some time during the weekend.
