  • Shinnosuke Abe has hit six home runs in extra innings over his career: August 11, 2002 against Hiroshima, 10th inning; May 1, 2004 against Hiroshima, 11th inning; August 19, 2007 against Yakult, 10th inning; April 24, 2009 against Chunichi, 10th inning; April 16, 2014 against Yakult, 10th inning; August 19, 2014 against Yakult, 11th inning. Hanshin Tigers

  • Randy Messenger's next start will most likely come on the 26th against Yomiuri. Source: Daily Sports 8/20/2014 ... Messenger currently leads the league in wins (11) and strikeouts (180).  Gene Bacque is the only foreign pitcher in franchise history to finish a season in first with wins (29 in 1964).  Messenger is the only foreign pitcher in franchise history to finish a season in first with strikeouts (183 in 2013).  If Messenger manages to finish the seasons in first in wins and strikeouts, he would become the first foreign pitcher in franchise history to accomplish the feat.  He would also become the first pitcher in franchise history to win two pitching titles in the same season since Yutaka Enatsu in 1968 (25 wins, 401 strikeouts). Jeremy Powell is the only foreign pitcher in NPB history to capture the strikeout and win title in the same season (2002, 17 wins, 182 strikeouts).  Bacque holds the record for most strikeouts by a foreign pitcher in one season with 200 in 1964.  The last foreign pitcher to lead the league in strikeouts two years in a row was Colby Lewis (183 in 2008 and 186 in 2009). Hiroshima Carp

  • The Carp tied a franchise record by banging out at least ten hits in their eighth straight game on Wednesday. Source: Sponichi 8/20/2014
  • Bryan Bullington will be taken off the active roster after giving up seven runs (all earned) on ten hits over three innings of work against the Yokohama Bay Stars on Wednesday.  Kenjiro Nomura hopes Bullington can use the ten days for rest and recovery. Source: Sponichi 8/20/2014
  • The Ni-gun Carp played in two Industrial League Hiroshima Tournament games on Tuesday.  Deunte Heath started the  semifinals game against Mitsubishi Juko Hiroshima.  He gave up three runs over seven innings of work and was the winning pitcher on record.  Brad Eldred was the starting designated hitter and batted clean-up.  He went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.  In the Finals game, Ryuhei Matsuyama was responsible for driving in the game-winning run in the 8th.  Matsuyama played in all four games of the tournament and went 6-for-16 with five RBI. Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Daisuke Miura and Takehiro Ishikawa took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Wednesday.  They were challenged by Guillermo Moscoso.  Miura reportedly sent out challenges to Kiyoshi Nakahata, team owner Makoto Haruna, and team president Jun Ikeda. Source: Sanspo 8/20/2014
