Yomiuri Giants

  • The Giants played in their second straight extra inning game on Friday and recorded victories in back-to-back extra inning games for the first time since 2005 (August 12 and 13). Source: Nikkan Sports 8/23/2014
  • On Friday, Jose Lopez recorded the organization's first walk-off sac hit since Michihiro Ogasawara on June 7, 2010.  He also became the first foreign player in franchise history to achieve the feat.  The Giants have recorded walk-off victories in five consecutive months (April-August).  The last time they did that was in 2002 (April-September).   • Kazunari Sanematsu's father died of multiple myeloma at 2:25pm on Saturday.  He was fifty-eight.  Sanematsu learned of his father's death in an e-mail he received after practices on the same day. Source: Daily Sports 8/23/2014

  • Takashi Toritani played in his 399th straight game at shortstop (everything inning of every game) on Saturday. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/23/2014 ... Toritani tied his own NPB record of 398 on Friday.  His previous streak began on May 11, 2005 and ended on September 28, 2007.  His current streak began on March 30, 2012.
