Summer Koshien Notes

  • Total attendance for the tournament was 853,000, down from 854,000 last year.  This was the seventh straight tournament where attendance topped 800,000.
  • Thirty-six home runs were hit during the tournament, down from thirty-seven last year.
  • The first two days were rained out, a first in tournament history.
  • Tsuruga Kehi's Sho Oyana hit a grand slam in the semifinals against Osaka Toin.  He became the forty-first player in tournament history to hit a grand slam.
  • Nihon Bunri's Makoto Arai recorded a walk-off home run against Toyama Shogyo.  He became the eighteenth player in tournament history to hit a walk-off home run.
  • KenDai Takasaki's Atsuki Hirayama stole eight bases during the tournament.  That tied the tournament record set in 1921.
  • Four games went into extra innings.
