Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Ryo Watanabe took a batted ball off his face during practices on the 24th and suffered a nasal bone fracture.  The Fighters announced on Thursday that he was going to have surgery on September 4 to treat the fracture.  He will be able to resume workouts as soon as the swelling goes down.  Watanabe was able to play in a Ni-gun game against Yokohama on the 26th (designated hitter, batted lead-off, went 0-for-4), but opted for surgery because he was having problems with his day-to-day life.
