Yomiuri Giants

  • Itaru Hashimoto tied an NPB record by striking out five times during Saturday's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars (fourteenth player in NPB history, eighth in Central League history). He also joined Koji Uehara (2000) and Toshihisa Nishi (2005) as the only players in franchise history to strike out five times in one game. Hashimoto fell one strikeout short of tying the Central League record for strikeouts in consecutive trips to the plate with seven (two on Friday and five on Saturday). Davey Johnson holds the CL record with strikeouts in eight straight plate appearances in June 1975. Source: Sponichi 8/31/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • The Tigers are planning to offer Matt Murton and Mauro Gomez contracts for the 2015 season. Formal negotiations will not begin until after the season. Source: Daily Sports 8/31/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Brad Eldred was taken off the active roster on Sunday to make room for Bryan Bullington. Source: Sports Hochi 8/31/2014 ... Eldred was also diagnosed with a right knee contusion on the 29th.   • Bullington and Tsubasa Aizawa will be taken off the active roster due to injuries.  Allen Kuri and Yoshikazu Kura will most likely be called up to take their spots.

Chunichi Dragons

  • The Dragons set a new franchise record for losses in one month with nineteen on Saturday.  The previous high of eighteen was set in September 1948 and tied on August 1964 and August 1997. They are the first Central League team to lose twenty games in a month since Hanshin in August 1990. Twenty losses by a team in one month is most in CL history. Yokohama Bay Stars

  • The Bay Stars managed to collect 132,5584 yen from fans between the 29th and 31st. The money, including one million yen from the players groups, will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society for Hiroshima landslide relief. Source: Sponichi 8/31/2014
  • Masayuki Kuwahara has two walk-off hits against the Yomiuri Giants this season: August 5 off Kentaro Nishimura and August 30 off Scott Mathieson. He joined Robert Rose in 1994 (April 12 off Hiroshi Ishige and September 23 off Masumi Kuwata) as the only players in franchise history to record two walk-off hits against the Giants in one season.
