New York Mets

The latest on Daisuke Matsuzaka, from the NY Daily News' Kristie Ackert:

The Mets left Citi Field with plenty of concern about left-handed reliever Josh Edgin and right-handed reliever Daisuke Matsuzaka. They were left behind in New York and will be looked at by team doctors this week because of elbow issues.

New York Yankees

The latest on Masahiro Tanaka, from NJ.com's Brendan Kuty:

... The latest setback in Tanaka's recovery from a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament could push the 25-year-old into the early offseason. Tanaka won't quit until the Yankees have determined whether he can return to his old form with the injury or if he needs Tommy John surgery.

"I don't know how much (torn ligaments) really heal over," manager Joe Girardi said. "The point is whether you could throw with it."

... The plan for Tanaka is work out at Yankee Stadium for the next few days and to see Dr. Christopher Ahmad, the team physician, on Monday — an off day.

... Tanaka isn't expected to throw off a mound again until Thursday, Girardi has said.
