Yomiuri Giants

  • Tatsunori Hara sat down with pitching coaches Masaki Saito and Kazuhisa Kawaguchi after the 5th inning of Tuesday's game against the Hiroshima Carp and decided to temporarily swap their roles, Yamaguchi headed to the bullpen and Kawaguchi to the dugout. Said Yamaguchi, "We can't see what's going on in the bullpen because we're at a rural stadium. I wanted to check on [Tetsuya] Yamaguchi's mechanics." Source: Sponichi 9/3/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Mauro Gomez recorded his ninety-second RBI of the year on Wednesday and tied Hal Breeden's 1976 franchise record for RBIs by a foreign player in their first season. Source: Sponichi 9/3/2014
  • Randy Messenger struck out twelve during his start against the Yokohama Bay Stars on Tuesday. It was the tenth time he struck out at least ten in a game over his career: once in 2011, once in 2012, four times in 2013, and four times in 2014. One more will put him in a first place tie with Darrell May for most games with at least ten strikeouts by a foreign pitcher. The twelve strikeouts also helped Messenger become the first foreign pitcher to strike out more than 200 in a season with 201 (the previous high for a foreign pitcher was Gene Bacque's 200 in 1964). Hiroshima Carp

  • Rainel Rosario joined Alex Ochoa (April 13, 2004) as the only players in NPB history to hit for the cycle in reverse -- home run, triple, double, single. He became the eighth foreign player to hit for the cycle, first since Julio Zuleta on September 22, 2007. Source: Sponichi 9/3/2014, Nikkan Sports 9/3/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Kiyoshi Nakahata was given a stern warning and issued a 200,000 yen fine for his ejection from Tuesday's game against the Hanshin Tigers. Source: Sponichi 9/3/2014
