Yomiuri Giants

  • Tatsunori Hara is in the first year of a two-year contract. Owner Kojiro Shiraishi told reporters there was no reason to cut the deal short. Source: Sponichi 9/5/2014
  • The Giants have two full-time catchers on the active roster. Both were in the starting line-up on Thursday: Shinnosuke Abe at first and Seiji Kobayashi behind the plate. Hanshin Tigers

  • Atsushi Nomi became the 140th pitcher in NPB history to reach 1,000 strikeouts during Friday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.   • The Chunichi players group and the Hanshin players group will collect donations for Hiroshima landslide relief before Saturday's game at Nagoya Dome. Yokohama Bay Stars

  • The Umpires Union sent a letter of protest to the Bay Stars with regards to the game in which Kiyoshi Nakahata was recently ejected for bumping an umpire. Yakult Swallows

  • Tetsuto Yamada recorded his 164th hit of the year in the 5th inning of Friday's game against the Yomiuri Giants and tied Atsuya Furuta's franchise record for hits by a Japanese right-handed hitter in one season. Source: Nikkan Sports 9/5/2014

    Furuta/Yamada’s team record is for hits by a Japanese right-hander. Rami-chan’s 200+ hits in his last season with the Swallows has to be the team record for right handers overall.
