Rakuten Eagles

  • Andruw Jones hit a home run against the Orix Buffaloes on Monday and became just the second foreign player in franchise history to record at least twenty home runs in two consecutive seasons since Jose Fernandez (2006, 2007). Source: Sports Hochi 9/9/2014
  • Yuki Matsui became the eighth pitcher out of high school since 1966 to record 100 or more strikeouts in their first season. The other seven: Toshiaki Moriyasu (RHP) with 160 strikeouts in 1966, Keishi Suzuki (LHP) with 160 strikeouts in 1966, Tsuneo Horiuchi (RHP) with 117 strikeouts in 1966, Yutaka Enatsu (LHP) with 225 in 1967, Daisuke Matsuzaka (RHP) with 151 in 1999, Masahiro Tanaka (RHP) with 196 in 2007, and Shintaro Fujinami (RHP) with 125 in 2013.   • Kazuo Matsui recorded the fifth walk-off home run of his career on Monday, first since September 24, 2012. It was also his second walk-off hit of the season, eleventh of his career, and first since August 31. The eleven walk-off hits are good for a sixth place tie with Yukio Tanaka in Pacific League history.   • The bruise on the top of Yoshio Itoi's left foot may have been the result of an HBP during a game against Nippon Ham on the 7th.
