Yomiuri Giants

  • Hirokazu Ibata started feeling discomfort in his left calf while playing defense in the 2nd inning of Thursday's game against the Hanshin Tigers. He was removed on defense in the 3rd as a precaution. Source: Nikkan Sports 9/11/2014

  • Tomoyuki Sugano picked up his tenth victory of the season on Wednesday and became the ninth pitcher in franchise history to record at least ten victories in their first two years in the NPB, first since Hirokazu Sawamura (11-11 in 2011 and 10-10 in 2012). The seven other pitchers in franchise history: Eiji Sawamura, Hiroshi Nakao, Hideo Fujimoto, Motoshi Fujita, Ritsuo Horimoto, Kunio Jonouchi, and Tsuneo Horiuchi. Hanshin Tigers

  • Fans are getting restless. On Wednesday, one fan had to be escorted away by security guards because he threw a PET bottle onto the field after the game. Chunichi Dragons

  • With fifteen games left on the schedule, Hitoki Iwase no longer has a chance to pitch in fifty or more games this year. His streak of fifty or more appearances a season will come to an end at fifteen. The streak began in his first year in 1999. Source: Daily Sports 9/11/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Takayuki Kajitani (September 9, 10) and Daisuke Yamashita (April 28, 29 in 1977) are the only players in franchise history to hit lead-off home runs in back-to-back games.   • The Bay Stars recorded shutout victories in consecutive games at Yokohama Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first time since May 8 and 9, 2009. Sugiura became the sixty-fifth pitcher in franchise history (sixth in franchise history) to give up a home run to the first batter he faced. Ryo Akiyoshi also gave up a home run to the first batter he faced on April 1. Sugiura and Akiyoshi became the fourth set of teammates to give up home runs to the first batters they faced in the same year. The other three sets: Eiji Shotsu and Sang-Hoon Lee with Chunichi in 1998; Giovanni Carrara and Kiyotaka Koishizawa with Seibu in 1998; and Chan Ho Park and Evan MacLane with Orix in 2011.
