  • Ni-gun manager Tetsuya Shiozaki is the front-runner to take over as Ichi-gun manager next year.   • Ryota Igarashi set a new franchise record on Saturday by recording his forty-third hold point of the season. The previous high of forty-two was held by Settsu and Brian Falkenborg in 2010. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani could become the first player out of high to school to top 100 million yen in their third year since Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2001. Popularity is a factor when determining player salaries. Otani merchandise is ranked first in sales for the Fighters. He also attracts fans: in nine games at Sapporo Dome (pitching), he has averaged 29,989 in attendance. Through the September 13, the Fighters averaged 26,014 over fifty games. Otani tossed a 1-0 shutout against Orix on Saturday. He became the first pitcher out of high school in franchise history to record a 1-0 shutout victory within his first two years in the NPB since Toshiaki Moriyasu in 1967 (September 23).
