Yomiuri Giants

  • Hector Mendoza could make his Ichi-gun debut on the 21st against Yakult at Tokyo Dome. There could be other opportunities to pitch if/when the Giants clinch first place. Sponichi 9/14/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • The Tigers gave up seventeen runs at Koshien to the Hiroshima Carp on Saturday. The last time they gave up seventeen runs at Koshien was when they lost a game to the Giants, 18-3 on April 16, 1950. The most runs they allowed in a game was twenty-two to Chunichi on October 6, 1950 (22-9). Source: Sanspo 9/14/2014, Sponichi 9/14/2014 ... The seventeen runs allowed to Hiroshima set a new record for the Tigers. Prior to Saturday, in 1,665 games against Hiroshima, the most Hanshin ever allowed in one game was sixteen (twice). • Yuta Iwasada was an alternate 1st round draft pick for the Tigers during the 2013 draft. Daichi Osera was their "true" 1st round draft pick, but was lost to Hiroshima in the lottery. The two faced each other on Saturday and became the second alternate and "true" 1st round draft picks in franchise history to pitch against each other in their first year in the NPB, first since Shinichi Kondo (in relief for Chunichi) and Takashi Inomata (as a starter for Hanshin) on August 29, 1987.
