Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles announced that Zach Lutz returned to the United States for tests on his right thumb. There is no timetable for his return. Lutz suffered a fracture in his right thumb when he was hit by a pitch on July 21. He played in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 4th, but re-injured the thumb. Lutz asked the Eagles if he could return to the US for additional tests because the swelling was not going away.   • The Fighters have four players with twenty or more stolen bases this year (through Monday): Haruki Nishikawa with thirty-seven, Takuya Nakashima with twenty-five, Keiji Obiki with twenty-one, and Dai-Kang Yoh with twenty. The Fighters have carried four players with at least twenty stolen bases two other times in franchise history: 1948 (Jiro Kanayama with thirty-five, Makoto Kozuru with twenty-seven, Hiroshi Oshita with twenty-six, and Eikichi Nagamochi with twenty), and 1962 (Shoichi Busujima with twenty-seven, Katsutoyo Yoshida with twenty-six, Akio Saionji with twenty-four, and Isao Harimoto with twenty-three). The 2011 Softbank Hawks were the last team in the Pacific League with four players that had twenty or more stolen bases: Yuichi Honda with sixty, Munenori Kawasaki with thirty-one, Nobuhiro Matsuda with twenty-seven, and Shuhei Fukuda with twenty-two.
