[12/5/2014] JPBPA to continue pushing for flat seven year FA requirement

The Japan Professional Baseball Players Association met at a hotel in Osaka on Thursday. Thirty-five players attended the meeting. Among issues that were discussed:

  • Setting both domestic and international FA option requirements to a flat seven years.
  • Giving players five days to decide whether or not to accept salary cuts that go beyond allowed limits
  • Increasing the number of Ni-gun games to give players more opportunities to play
  • Deciding how to distribute Samurai Japan funds
  • Rental players
  • The start of a new online site [E-Career NEXTFIELD] that will help players find new careers after retirement, in cooperation with SB Human Capital. About a hundred companies have posted listings and over ten retired players have so far used the site.
