The Hanshin Tigers announced today that they finalized an extension with Mauro Gomez (30) for the 2015 season. According to reports by the media, Gomez agreed to a two-year deal that will pay an estimated 1.7 million US dollars (about 200 million yen, up from the eighty-five million this season) next year. The second year will be a team option.
The Tigers released the folowing statement from Gomez:
I am very happy about finalizing my contract. I don't really enjoy the long-distance flight to Japan, but I like Koshien Stadium and the thought of being able to play there again will help me get through it.
We were able to make it to the Nippon Series this year, but we could not win it. I'd like to do what I can to help the team win every game from the start of the regular season through to the Nippon Series. I will try my best to improve on the numbers I put up this year and also hit a few more home runs. I'll train hard before heading to spring camp in February. Please cheer for me again next year.
