Yomiuri Giants

  • Shinnosuke Abe struggled with neck pain this season. He visited a number of hospitals, but doctors were unable to find the cause. He was given injections to dull the pain until it got to the point where they had to advise him against it. The Giants are hoping the move to first will remove the strains of catching and allow him to recover as a productive offensive player. Source: Sponichi 12/26/2014
  • Yasunari Takagi will return to the team next season as a Ni-gun submanager. The Giants senryokugai'ed Takagi on October 1 and offered him the option of staying in the organization. Source: Sponichi 12/26/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • The Tigers could leave Yamato in center and give Tsuyoshi Nishioka a try at short if Takashi Toritani decides to leave for the Majors. Source: Sports Hochi 12/26/2014
  • Tomoyuki Kubota (33) is slated to join the staff as a batting practice pitcher and Takeshi Hidaka (37) as a pro scout. The moves will be effective January 1, 2015. Source: Sponichi 12/26/2014

  • Masahiro Araki hit about 500 baseballs against a pitching machine on Thursday. He hit around 10,000 baseballs during workouts this month. Source: Daily Sports 12/26/2014

    Yamato in center and Nishioka at SS makes way more sense than a “double-convert” in my opinion. No doubt Yamato could handle SS with aplomb, but Nishioka in center gives me the jitters. Plus, he says he only wants to be a middle-infielder.
